BuzzFeedconfirmed on its debate liveblog that the tweet had been published by Peretti.
Peretti backed up the story to a BuzzFeed reporter, claiming that he heard Ivanka Trump say the words about eight to 10 years ago at a bar in New York City.
Peretti's wife is also told BuzzFeedthat she heard the quote.
BuzzFeeddeclined to make Peretti available for an interview or to comment further on the situation.
