Meet Shadow,Engsub Archives an adorable purple-and-white fox that's up for "adoption" (i.e. purchase) in World of Warcraft. What's more: if you open your heart to her, and you'll actually do some good in the wider world.
Shadow continues Blizzard's tradition of in-game "charity pets," which are usually (but not always) tied to the annual fan event, BlizzCon. In this case, the $10 cost of adopting the cute, little fox benefits disaster relief.
SEE ALSO: Blizzard Entertainment is opening its very own esports arena in Los AngelesAs Blizzard's announcement reads:
Due to recent natural disasters around the world—and the great needs of those affected—we’ve decided not to wait for BlizzCon 2017 to release this year’s new charity pet. The immediacy of the events, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, flooding in South Asia, and countless other crises, have shown we need to act now.
The post goes on to state that 100 percent of each $10 adoption fee will be passed along to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Disaster Relief Fund. Donations will be split evenly between the two organizations.
Shadow adoption monies will benefit disaster relief until Dec. 31, 2017. The post doesn't confirm it one way or another, but you should still be able to adopt Shadow after that -- you just won't be giving money to disaster relief when you do.
You can, of course, donate to either of these organizations directly, but you won't get a pet WoWfox if you do.
I don't play WoWpersonally, but I'll have my wallet at the ready in case Blizzard ever does something like this for Overwatch (HEAR THAT, BLIZZARD?).
