Today,Esther Studer at 7:30 a.m. ET, Motorola was supposed to launch two new smartphones: the foldable Moto Razr 2022 and the flagship Moto X30 Pro.
Despite numerous teasers ahead of the event, which was to take place in China, the company has now scrapped the whole thing, literally a few hours before launch (via Android Authority).
Motorola and Lenovo mobile general manager Chen Jin shared the news on China's Weibo, saying the Moto launch event has been "cancelled for some reason" (details may be lost in Google's automated translation, though).
The news was then confirmed by Motorola's official Weibo account.
"We are deeply sorry for this, and thank you for your enthusiastic support for moto's new products. For information about new products, you can continue to pay attention to moto's official information platform," the account said in a post (again, it's Google translating this).
With these two phones being incredibly important for Motorola, it's highly unusual that the launch was cancelled, especially this late and without a clear reason.
The Razr 2022 is a foldable smartphone in the Razr tradition, with likely specs including 6.67-inch foldable display, a 2.65-inch external display, up to 18GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. The X30 Pro was supposed to be the first-ever 200-megapixel smartphone, with other specs including a 6.67-inch display, a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, and super-fast, 125W charging.
There's no word on when these two phones might actually launch.
