"It is Watch Aunt's Temptation (2018)considered enlightening and therapeutic to think about death for a few minutes a day," Anthony Bourdain says in the preview for the final episode of Parts Unknown, Season 11. "Life is but a dream."
As the world continues to mourn the esteemed late travel documentarian, so too must we say goodbye to the TV series that made us feel not only closer to him, but to the world at large. The last episode of the eleventh season of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknownairs on CNN this Sunday, July 24, at 9 p.m.
As of now, it is still unclear whether CNN will air Season 12 of the show, which Bourdain was in the midst of filming at the time of his death.
The trailer serves as yet another acute reminder of what made Bourdain so special — going above and beyond the usual approach of most travel shows. Bourdain was known for immersing audiences in the lives and cultures that made up every place he visited.
Rather than the more exploitative type of TV tourism, Bourdain insisted on bringing viewers to lesser known and marginalized locales. He might've been the one with his name in the show's title, but he always served as a conduit to showcase other people's stories.
The final episode of Season 11 follows Bourdain on his trip to Bhutan, described as as "a hard-to-reach region in the Himalayas" and an epicenter of spirituality. Judging from the sneak peek, it looks like the episode may provide viewers some much-needed sense of closure.
Bourdain may be gone physically, but his legacy will clearly leave a permanent mark. And you can keep watching, too. Netflix has extended its agreement to keep previous episodes of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown on the streaming service.
