Season 3 ofRick and Watch Games of Seduction OnlineMortymight be over, but the gift of life-threatening, soul-crushing adventures continues. In one meta ass move, the Vindicators (aka the show's Avengers-like intergalactic super team) is getting its own spin-off comic book series.
And we can't imagine a worse nightmare for Rick Sanchez.
SEE ALSO: Why 'Rick and Morty' is the realest show on TV right nowThe premise is hilariously ironic, since the show's "Vindicators 3: The Return of the Worldender" Season 3 episode was a cynical take down of the franchise war cash grabs of the Marvel/DC extended universes. We trust the comics will borrow the show's self-deprecating meta humor on the superhero phenomenon.
Like the Netflix series to an Avengers summer blockbuster, Rick and Morty Presents: The Vindicators! will focus on the show's side characters, like Scary Terry. Publisher Oni Press already has other successful series based on the main characters, like Rick & Morty: Lil' Poopy Superstar.
Despite Rick bemoaning the entire Season 3 adventure, claiming he refuses "to answer a literal call to adventure" from the Vindibeacon, it looks like Pickle Rick joins the team at some point. And, judging from his last encounter with the Vindicators, we're predicting he'll become the super-villain out of sheer boredom. Especially because the description describes the Vindicators as "defeating a villain of their own making."
The first issue of the 40-page comics comes out on March 7, 2018, releasing quarterly throughout the year. The first issue will be written by J. Torres; the second by Mallory Ortberg; the third by Mags Visaggio; and the fourth by Delilah Dawson. CJ Cannon will helm the art for all four.
You'll remember that the last time Rick and Morty teamed up with the Vindicators, Rick literally shit the bed. He wound up "Saw-ing the Vindicators," in a torture puzzle maze that destroyed each hero emotionally and physically and shattered Morty's child-like belief in good and evil.
"They're the first line of defense against evil! The guardians of the unguarded!" Morty said to Rick. To which he replied, "They're the writers of their own press releases, Morty."
Rick may be a huge asshole, but he almost always turns out to be right.
