According to a comment left by grap112ler, the fire "came within a few hundred yards" of the house but didn't interfere with it, leaving both their parent's home and dishes intact.

My mom has 5 sets of china (don't ask) and put them in her pool prior to being evacuated from fires in northern California. The dishware survived!
This method doesn't only work for valuables -- it has also saved lives. Last year, a family survived the Sonoma fires by seeking refuge in their pool for six hours.
Multiple wildfires have been burning through California since July 23. The Carr fire, which has claimed at least eight lives, continues to spread.
