Upon opening the app, students will be able to see overlaid on the letter, a virtual model of the university, including information about its history, and information about its specialty departments in aeronautical, astronautical and marine engineering.
This is the first AR-enabled acceptance letter to be sent out in China -- and the concept also appears to be a world first.
The NPU added that the AR tech was meant to show off the school's "cutting-edge" technology.
"Although the admission notice is just a piece of a paper, the carefully embedded AR technology serves to show a cutting-edge temperament and a sense of pride," Xie Dan, admissions office deputy director of NPU told state media outlet the People's Daily.
