Similar operations went on prior to national elections in France and Germany this year, although not to as great an extent or effect.

While these Facebook ads have been described as pro-Trump, company CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been mildly critical of the president's vitriolic immigration ideas and policies. Zuckerberg has called for keeping the nation's door open to refugees, and criticized Trump's moves encouraging the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
